Leaders share their ideas so others can hear them. When it's your turn to speak in front of people, four things help everyone understand you.
Stand up tall. Look up at your listeners instead of at the floor. Use a loud, clear voice so the person in the back can hear. And go slowly β fast words are hard to follow.
Feeling nervous? That's completely normal, even for grown-ups! Take one slow, deep breath before you begin. And remember: the more you practice, the easier speaking up gets.
Here's a surprise: being a leader isn't only about talking. The best leaders are also the best listeners.
To listen well, look at the person speaking, keep your body still, and really think about their words. Wait for your turn instead of jumping in β interrupting tells people their ideas don't matter.
When you listen, two good things happen: people feel respected, and you learn things you never would have known. A great listener makes a great leader.
A team is a group of people working together toward the same goal. Teams can do big things that no one person could do alone.
Good teammates share, take turns, and cheer each other on. When something goes wrong, they solve the problem together instead of blaming. Everyone has a job, and every job matters.
A leader helps a team work like that β making sure each person is included and giving credit when the team does well. Together, a team is stronger than any one of its members.
A goal is something you want to do or get better at β like reading a whole chapter book, learning to swim, or finishing a big build.
Smart leaders make a plan. First, pick your goal. Then break it into small steps you can do one at a time. Take the first step today, and keep going even when it feels tricky. Trying again after a flop is what leaders do best.
And when you finally reach your goal? It feels amazing β because you earned it, one step at a time.
Practice your welcome line out loud three times before the Expo. Stand tall, look up, and speak slowly β just like you learned. You've got this!
You led the way β speaking up, listening, working as a team, setting goals, and planning your very own Expo. You finished the whole Academy!
